KUALA LUMPUR: Barisan Nasional Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin will seek the views of his counterparts in the coalition before announcing a decision on any issue.
“I want to make sure every decision is agreeable to all.
“I don’t want to argue with them through the media, which gives the impression that we are unable to achieve a consensus,” he said at an MIC Youth wing leadership forum here yesterday.
Khairy said the Barisan Youth would meet regularly, alternating between the offices of the different Youth wings as compared to the previous practice of holding them at the Umno office only.
A separate office for Barisan Youth, with space for all component parties, would be set up, he added.
“We also plan to appoint leaders of the Youth wings to helm various posts in the Barisan Youth.
“I have already appointed Neil Foo of the MCA as the chief strategist,” he added.
Khairy said joint Barisan Youth committees would be activated at the state and division levels to ensure better coordination among the various parties.
In Manek Urai, he said Barisan Youth leaders had, for the first time, joined forces.
“We have to mutually trust each other and organise activities jointly.
“We have to move forward as one united Youth team,” said Khairy.
Previously, each of the component parties had campaigned to garner support from their respective communities.
Khairy added that Barisan Youth would set up a team to meet Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein to resolve the problem of birth certificates and MyKad for Indians.
“In fact, Umno Youth played a role in getting birth certificates for four children in Alor Gajah recently,” he said.
Also present were MIC president Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu, deputy president Datuk G. Palanivel and MIC Youth co-ordinator T. Mohan.
Samy Vellu said support from the Indian community for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak’s leadership was expec-ted to increase further in the coming months.
He claimed that many of the new policies and allocations for the Indian community introduced by the Government were contained in several recommendations made by the MIC over the past 18 months.
Samy Vellu said the MIC Youth has been vocal in attending to the problems of the Indian community over the past year.
