Double Standard In Stamp Rate

MCA Youth Complaint Double Standard Stamp Rate

(13/1/2009)MCA Youth Strategic Planning Bureau’s Chief, Neil Foo complaint POS Malaysia imposes “Double Standard Stamp Rate” towards Chinese New Year Greeting Card is unprofessional.

Despite the recession, Malaysians are still sending Chinese New Year(CNY) cards to create festive and harmony atmosphere in this multi racial community but POS Malaysia is imposing “either” 30 cents or 50 cents stamp rate in order to send out the greeting card.

This has hassled the posters to add on 20 cents stamp to the envelopes and paid extra cost for this year. Likewise, the POS office counter staff was not consistent in their advice on the actual stamp rate to be followed. The staff advised that “ if you are confident that 30 cents stamp can be reached to your receiver, you can just do it”. This statement has confused the posters in deciding the stamp rate.

Yesterday, Neil Foo has experienced himself that his office staff need to add on 20 cents ( total 50 cents) on to the envelops and seal it compare to last year practice that needed only 30 cents to send out the CNY cards. The company has to pay more postal with 66% increase in cost.

In order to understand the fact, Foo has personally gone to one of the post office in Selangor to verify the stamp rate. As the matter of fact, the post office counter clerk has advised : “ if you are confident that 30 cents stamp can reach to the receiver, you can just do it.” “ Many people have complaint about the stamp rate issue but so far we have not received clear instruction from the top”.

Foo commented that POS Malaysia has not carried out their task and communication professionally. Furthermore, they should not increase the postal rate by 20 cents in such recession period which burden the public. Instead, they should continuously to encourage more sending of greeting cards to create more harmony atmosphere and relationship amongst the multi-ratio community in Malaysia.

The bureau urges the management quickly rectify the inconsistency policy and hope that they remain the 30 cents postal rate for all Greeting Cards for different festivals.
